Requirements for teaching

Colleges require at least a masters degree in order to hire faculty, although for some fields a doctoral degree and extensive post-doctoral work has become a defacto requirement.

For primary and secondary education, a bachelor's degree is generally required. Teacher certification requirements differ from location to location, although most locations have some programs that allow non-education majors to gain certification in a relatively short time.

One option for you is teaching online independently. Some of the issues you need to consider for that:

  • synchronous communication: MOO, chat, irc
  • asynchronous communication: mailing list
  • reading material for the course: need text that will be accessible to people around the world
  • license for course material: open source, restricted?
  • competition from other providers
  • accreditation of the course
  • qualifications and experience of instructor
  • pricing and payment procedure

These are in no particular order some of the issues that need to be dealt with. GNA provides the following services:

  • free access to our database (both usage and source code)
  • free listing of your course on our course database?
  • free access to our MOO server? that facilitates real time collaboration
  • for a small fee banner advertising on our site for your course or project.

We are planning additional services in the future so please come back to the site from time to time. There is additional information at our Teacher Channel.
